As far as I've seen, this UML notation is commonly used instead of Booch diagrams for object-oriented design.

Booch diagrams have those funny "cloud" style nodes and UML has the wide rectangle style nodes.

It's like Booch diagrams fell out of favor and UML is the happening diagramming style lately.
