Yes, most definitely, Steve. This is exactly what I am hoping for.

The only problem with a "frontier-on-everybody's-server" solution is that it would limit participation to, well, everybody who has a you know what you know where. The quest right now is for something with ubiquity, which, unfortunately, means HTML, or some such. Even plug-ins are a problem.

But, again, yes, this is probably the kind of solution we're going after.
