It seems to me that the Desktop PIM might be dead because people who need PIMs are using Pilots and other PDA's that are always there when they need them.

For example, BrainForest is a PIM/Outliner for PalmPilot, with a companion desktop version for Mac and Win:

At $39.95 we'll have to see if they make money.

It would be interesting to see what people think makes a killer PIM.
