No, it was designed to cost Salon less, not earn them more. IPO's aren't free. Salon gets to keep more of the proceeds.

"Maintaining a high share price that comes with your average first few day increase in stock is easier than clawing your way up from 'fair market value'"

This doesn't seem to be the case, considering how many internet IPO's have dropped well below their first-day close.
