Is there something special about Zope which makes it inherently work only on Linux? Could it be ported to OS X server?

most likely. afaik, there's no OS X port of Python yet, but once someone's fixed that, Zope should run just fine.

(footnote: in the Python universe, Linux is just another Unix flavour, most of the time. And unless you get sloppy, the same thing applies to Windows 9X/NT...)
