This is the answer for now:

Set up a separate server for image serving, and use Frontier just for dynamic content.

We're getting the first results from the work Andre is doing on the 6.1 kernel, and we may be able to recommend Frontier for serving images, but in the 6.0 kernel you definitely want to offload image serving.
