There is a genealogy product for creating online tree chars called InternetTree. It converts a gedcom file into data that a java applet can manipulate. Check outhttp://www.genealogy.com/familyexplorer/index.html
The purely online version at the URL above is kind of limited, won't do cousins of the original person etc, but if you havea program like familytreemaker it can create a fairly complicated tree from the datafile. No, I don't know how to make it work as a standalone program apart from geneo.com
