I absolutely agree with Jim Stegman's followup.

I used to work Tech Support at Toshiba's notebook division, and I can tell you... Kudos letters count.

Let alone, just with the ratio of bad news to good news -- because satisfied customers generally don't send feedback -- favorable feedback can make a good employee feel like they're making some difference in the world, and not just casting their bread upon the waters...
