Cal Law: Congress Does a Database Dance (June 4, 1999)

"At issue is a measure by Rep. Howard Coble, R-N.C., that would extend copyright protection to databases and prevent information from being copied and repackaged by a competitor.

Software publishing and information content companies, such as IBM Corp., Thomson Corp. and Reed-Elsevier, say the bill gives them protection from "free riders" who could misappropriate their collection of information."
