I already have per-channel customization in MWN (currently it's only number of headlines for RSS channels) so it would be easy to implement it with channel-defined settings. Like: 

 
  City  
  ...     
 
  
   date
   Date
   ...
would be used to allow portal to provide specific interfaces for different types of settings, for example URL, data, city, country etc.
