Randal Schwartz just posted on the Perl-XML mailing list that his "upcoming Jan '00 Perl column for WebTechniques contains a program that uses XML::RSS to fetch from a list of newsfeeds and email me when any new headlines arrive on a given feed." Mail to News/NNTP would then be a pebble toss away.
