table.sortBy is generally not recommended because it puts everything else on hold.

Is that true even if the tables to sort are invisible? (i.e if you don't open the table containing the tables to sort)

I think so. Didn't this come up on Frontier-Server or Frontier-User recently? I think it was Dave W. who noted it.
