I should probably stop using the term "flamefest" so generically. Discussions can often lead to noise due only to logical fallacies without ever being disrespectful or personal (unless one considers intentional use of logical fallacy to be disrespectful :-). Only by being aware of these problems, often with coaching or mentoring from someone else, can they be avoided in discussions with strong opinions.
