I'm glad to see this solution. Thanks Wes and Dave.

This is similar to a technique RealAudio uses, the "file" you click on is just a placeholder with a tiny bit of info that gets passed off to RealAudio (launching if needed), then RealAudio uses the info to go get the real stuff.
