For the record, I don't have a problem making my own MP3s or getting "friend made" MP3s of CDs I own*.And I too think it'll be great when artists and labels, like those through My.MP3.com, choose to allow any repurposing of their bits. Preferably, they'll control the mastering of any of those bits so only the best possible quality is made.
But lets not paint a rosy picture about what's happening now in light of what may (and I think should) come to be.
(* CDs, not vinyl or tape, that smacks me as wrong since a good MP3 is near-CD quality.)
