With fiber optic bandwidth doubling every six months, and storage capacities doing something similar, MP3 is probably an interim step. Also, MP3s can vary in quality, and some of your fellow audiophiles are working on better compression algorithms. In the meantime, audio quality is a good reason why a lot of people preview songs on Napster and then buy the CDs.
