When you think about it, as Jim Lyon says, just think of the amount of information they could accumulate on you, for sale to the highest bidder. Joel Spolsky had an interesting article about what info Microsoft could collect with Passport. This is a must read!

Maybe the best way is to set up an escrow account directly with the vendor, Like "MP3s-R-Us" or whatever. The only drawback is if you partronize 25 vendors, you'd need 25 escrow accounts. ARGHHH!
