Dave Winer: Also, it would be great if someone from this community could evaluate yesterday's mind bomb from MIT. Does it really work?Conceptually there's no obvious flaw in it. I haven't requested the code and accepted the NDA, and I will not. As soon as there is NDA-less code available, I'll take a look.
The general idea, however, of applying psychoacoustically-based algorithms to sound data for the purpose of fingerprinting them is sound.
How would we integrate it with Radio UserLand? Even if their approach is imperfect, just having something to interface with would help us finish up a bunch of the loose-ends in Radio UserLand, esp in the right-click menu for songs and on ourfavoritesongs.com.
If they do the code even nominally right, wouldn't this just be a DLL? Or does Radio UserLand not support extension via DLLs?
