Seen Apple's Data Detectors?

They come pretty close - just control-click on your document, you can open a URL, make a bookmark, check a currency conversion on the Internet... looking up a word or a subject in a search engine seems a pretty natural extension to me (although the main problem there is in finding the boundary of what it's "detecting").
