The question is does the typical or even any home appliance need the processing power of distributed computing. Remember the classic Honeywell funance controllers functioned quite nicely using only two relays. Much of the advantage of the Frontier environment is derived from connectivity and interoperability. Internet standards such as XML-RPC and Dave's fractional horsepower HTTP servers teamed up with Palm-Pilot browser based UI would seem to be sufficient.Jini is probably more a political creature, trying to privatize a public marketplace, than new technology bringing needed functionality just-in-time for the home market.
