Stand alone storage pretty much requires a file system, so what you end up with is a server, but it's still a good idea if you could find cost benefits to doing a simpler server. (Although it's pretty hard to beat the cost of Linux).I think this fractional HTTP idea is dead on. Think about the near future when AT&T is delivering CATV, Internet and Multiple lines of telephone though a 'set top box'. A home set up with a 100BT network could mix Compressed Video, Audio, HTTP data, and telephone all sharing the same wiring fabric, with all of the services available to all of the devices on the net.
