Wasn't NextStep based on BSD? I imagine that it would have taken them a long time to rewrite it so that it ran on the Linux kernel instead. Besides, if you talk to the BSD weenies, they believe that Linux is a Johnny Come Lately and that BSD is superior to Linux anyway.
