I think he quit to soon. Mozilla has tremendous potential and while it's been slow to produce results, I think they are starting to turn a corner and get to a point where there is a lot of usable code. But it is curious how Gnome can start from nothing and get 300 developers and Mozilla can start with bad code, throw it out, and essentially start from scratch yet only get 30.

JWZ is a recognized voice. People listen to him. They respect him. I know I do (although I have never met him). I heard an interview once with someone from Netscape who called him a curmudgeon and that his role at Mozilla was basically head curmudgeon, and he was darned good at it. He poked and prodded and ranted and raved and made people in that company listen to the Mozilla vision. He did a lot of good work.
