I think it's that you don't have an A or CNAME record for userland.comoutput from nslookup...
> server ns1.conxion.net Default Server: ns1.conxion.net Address: 206.204.4.6> userland.com Server: ns1.conxion.net Address: 206.204.4.6
No address (A) records available for userland.com
Right here there's a problem. It's telling me that there's no userland.com machine. So I'll look for anything that can help.
> set type=any > userland.com Server: ns1.conxion.net Address: 206.204.4.6userland.com nameserver = ns3.conxion.net userland.com nameserver = ns4.conxion.net userland.com nameserver = ns1.conxion.net userland.com preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.userland.com userland.com origin = ns.conxion.net mail addr = postmaster.conxion.net serial = 1999042802 refresh = 43200 (12H) retry = 900 (15M) expire = 604800 (1W) minimum ttl = 86400 (1D) userland.com preference = 50, mail exchanger = mailspool.conxion.net userland.com nameserver = ns3.conxion.net userland.com nameserver = ns4.conxion.net userland.com nameserver = ns1.conxion.net ns3.conxion.net internet address = 206.204.210.9 ns4.conxion.net internet address = 206.204.235.3 ns1.conxion.net internet address = 206.204.4.6 mail.userland.com internet address = 206.204.24.9 mailspool.conxion.net internet address = 206.204.4.6 >
What this is telling me is that there isn't a machine "userland.com". There's a mail exchange record, and nameserver authorities, but no A or cname.
Checkng discuss.userland.com, it looks like it's there. Screenshots, docserver, and all the other usual suspects are there.
Keep in mind that dns propagates slowly, mistakes as well as fixes.
Doing you own DNS is a good thing. At least when it gets messed up, you can say three hail murphy's, figure out what's wrong, and learn from it.
