can't pass HTML in XML - use your web browser for your multimedia experience - or pass XML to Director. Th estreamign problem gets solve diwth NetShow - now called MS Media something or other. For your media itself - you just keep copies of the file names around....

all the data itself is on a streaming server - or some sort of big iron.
