Among the many absurd parts was the bit where they think web authors shouldn't be able to mix languages on a web page, because page-reading technology can't deal with it.

How, exactly, are you supposed to put up a page that is *about* more than one language? Or a page about Dante? Or Beowulf? Or Chaucer, for that matter? Or even a simple foreign language lesson? These are obviously all things that must be eradicated for the greater good.

And what are the ivy leagues going to do about their mottoes?

And Dave, of course, will have to watch which song lyrics he quotes on DaveNet.

The individuals putting forth these ideas are hopefully an irrational, radical minority on this particular committee. It's too bad the article didn't talk with anyone else involved.

I won't even go into how their weak justification, "the government paid to develop the internet".
