Why not compress the outgoing request? If you gzip it, then it can be decompressed without the need for a client app as long as they are running MSIE 4.x or higher and or Netscape 4.5 of 4.61. Sure it eats a few more CPU cycles, however it will always be faster to do this and transmit a compressed page than an uncompressed page. Just a thought.
