Actually, this confusion (free beer, vs free speech, as the advocates say) is the reason why Open Source Software started as a term in the first place. Free software, as rms means it, is software that comes with the source.

The main ideological difference, as I see it, is that Open Source thinks of itself as a development process, and Free software thinks of itself as a movement. Otherwise, it's mostly the same thing.
