Presumably the licensed tools will insert some kind of unfakeable watermark?Nope. GIFs are a lossless compression scheme for small images. Digital watermarks would stand out like a sore thumb (and wreak havoc with the compression ratio). Plus, there's no watermark in the format now, so nobody can tell whether you created your GIFs with a licensed program.
Cheers,
Eric
