Sendmail is kind of like a Formula 1 racing car; you can make it perform better than anything else but you have to know how to do it. Except it's versatile, so it's like a Formula 1 racing car with a four-wheel drive retrofit. Perhaps I take the metaphor too far.

Other MTAs are also good but more suited for one particular niche; sometimes all you need is a screwdriver, and not a Swiss Army Knife.
