Why is RMI Java-only? Who does *that* serve?

It's not - as of Java 1.2.2 RMI can speak IIOP allowing it to talk to CORBA servers.You can, should you have time, develop your own transport protocol. Why doesn't UserLand implement RMI over SOAP, got something against Java?
