Have Pike open a connection to the server. Keep the connection open. If the server needs to send stuff to the client, just send it down the old connection.

I wish it were that simple. I edit sites on six different servers. The windows are open in Pike, often through several days. I have eight windows open in Pike right now.

I'm fairly sure we're using the only protocol that makes sense.

Just curious, do you have a Manila site and do you use Pike?
