I think, judging from disputes over more contentious issues, it might be better to use the terms "Maroon" and "Turquoise" to define, respectively, these varieties of software. It would save a lot of time and nervous energy on everyone's part. Polarities polarise.

Or, perhaps create an index based upon the visible spectrum in which FSF products are at one end, and uber-proprietary, hermetically-sealed-source products are at the other. Or take it a stage further, and use the pH scale. Which makes some sense, given that some people find one extreme caustic, and the other corrosive ;)
