Well, I think Tog might disagree with you on this point.

'Permalink' repeated at the start of every paragraph on your home page is unnecessarily distracting. For a feature that pervasive and non-critical for usability of the site, the user will learn.

Personally, I even find the blue arrow to be unelegant and distracting - especially with certain template designs. The bullet is overly subtle, but there should be some middle ground here that would work...
