No, he's patented Collector-targeted memorabilia articles, and a a method of producing collector-targeted memorabilia articles by affixing one or more integral collectible attractiveness attributes to each selected base article. That this legalistic definition happens to include autographed baseballs is simply a happy coincidence...

Note that the prior art references include baseball cards (1994), the plastic card holder (1991) and promotional coupons (1991). It's a joke. It's risible. It just proves that business-method patents and software patents are linguistic rather than palpable. What happened to the days when a patent came with a schematic, or a process diagram? Patent holders invent ways of saying things, not ways of doing them. And the only people I want to pay for saying things in a new way are poets.
