Would you do some work for more hits?

If you run a site that changes frequently, would it be worth it to you to run a script once every 24 hours that produced a list of all the files that changed on your site in the last 24 hours? The idea is that a search engine, Excite or Infoseek, Alta Vista, Yahoo, Lycos, Hotbot, etc, could read that file, then read the files that changed, and always have your freshest content in their indices.
It's a simple upgrade to the web. In Dan Gillmor's SJ Merc column today he quotes an Excite rep saying that they can't get webmasters to support META tags, so the question is, can webmasters move as a unit? It wouldn't take many to support this feature to make it worthwhile for a search engine company to support it.
