You are right, it is not a vast right wing conspiracy, it is an accumulation of a large number of small conspiracies aimed at embarrassing and weakening this presidency. And yes he did give them some ammunition.In my mind the real abuse of power has been performed by this congress, which has participated in all manner of investigations and character assasination of both the president and those around him.
