First of all @Home just withdrew that absurd servcie agreement - as they were 'reamed' for it.

Dan Gillmor of the SJ Merc started that process. Thanks Dan!

Second - not many people realize that cable-modem access rates go down dirctly proportional to the number of subscribers signed up - so that's a dead-end scenario at best.

Thirdly - I'd say that the ONLY short term scenario is signing up for whatever xDSL you can find, and pray to the Godess of technology to shine down upon you sometime before the next millenium. And that it works.

'Cause there's alot to be learned about how these C.O.s (Central Offices) are hooked up to the net - it's not clear AT ALL that just because you can get 1M into your home (and usually only 128K back) that the C.O. has got enough bandwidth to service not only you - but your entire neighborhood.
