Here is how I've chossen to deal with it. Use generic urls that forward to unique urls. example:http://some.news.server/editorals/bigwig/
will forward to
http://some.news.server/editorals/bigwig/year/month/day/index.htm
You change the .raw file, or the apache config file that redirects based on urls. Its almost the best of both worlds, you have a url that always brings you to bigwigs current rant, as well as stable urls for all his previous babelings.
