I leave the "Recently used..." folders, etc. as is.

one thing to watch out for here. There is a bug in Apple Menu Options (AMO). If AMO cannot resolve an item in there, your mac will lockup. I see this all the time when prviledges change on the file server and someone has an item in "Recently Used" that they no longer have access to.
