NextStep had a BSD 4.3 layer on a Mach kernel.

The upper layers above Darwin, the api's which Apple calls 'YellowBox', are pretty well platform-agnostic.

All or part of YellowBox runs on top of NT, Solaris, and HPUX. The Solaris and HPUX versions are part of WebObjects, so they don't have the YellowBox screen GUI framework, just the Foundation classes (strings, numbers, dates, processes, threads, distributed objects, etc) and the EOF database classes, along with the WebObjects framework for output to HTML instead of the screen.
