I'm not familiar enough with the Linux world (I run LinuxPPC) to recommend a distribution that would be out-of-the-box installable although I suspect the latest from RedHat would be reasonably good.

However, given your personal profile, I suspect the quickest way to gather knowledge would be to pose a question over on slashdot. I'd be very surprised if you didn't get a positive & helpful response. (Never underestimate the enthusiasm and helpfulness of Linuxites wanting to share their vision. :-)
