d2c compiling itself. Too slow. Please fix :-)

I've figured out how I can speed it up about twenty times. No kidding. Plus, I can make it use far less RAM. But I will need a week or two of full-time work to remodularize things.

(d2c is my completely impractical hobby. Everybody should have an impractical hobby or two.)
