Also, when a driver breaks under a new release of Windows or MacOS, it's treated as a bug. Sure, the bug may be passed off from the platform vendor to the driver developer (Apple's classic "They weren't following our guidelines and didn't test with prerelease versions and they broke..." line) but at least it's acknowledged as such rather than something users are told to live with.
