Umm, this can be implemented rather seamlessly with a simple perl script like:

#!/usr/bin/perl

$server = "archives.infoworld.com";
print "Status: 301 Moved Permanently\r
Location: http://$server$ENV{'PATH_INFO'}\r\n\r\n";

Point the Web server's error response to this script. I can't help but wonder why this is being made so difficult...
