Antique vs. New Software

It's interesting to see that software (More 3.0) about 10 years old works with today's Mac OS 8.1.
I own some software a lot more recent that seems to need a purchased update every time a new version of the OS comes out. Somewhere along the line software vendors starting putting "OS Roadblocks" into their software. Here's to software of the old days!
