There's a BASE URL tag in the page found using the search engine that is an index of stories from that section of the NY Times.

This is an off-shoot of a previous solution for finding permanent URLs off of the NY Times search engine using the image tag of any pictures in the story. Note: The BASE TAG doesn't lead anywhere in some situations like the story below to get a unique URL, so you probably still have to use the image tag to find the URL in some sections.
