Back around 1992 I was called out troubleshoot a problem over at Atherton Technology on an TCP/IP, Appletalk "internet". It seemed that the accounting department printers would work fine until around 4:30 pm each day and then they would get sporadic and/or drop off the net.

After about 2 hours of checking routers and concentrators narrowed it down to a print server device. Every day when the sun came around the corner of the building it would heat the ethernet connector which would expand and pull apart the connection.
