Problems with the $ and scripts.
Author: William Crim Posted: 4/26/2000; 2:03:33 PM Topic: Problems with the $ and scripts. Msg #: 16725 Prev/Next: 16724 / 16726
The "$" delimeter, in the storyReader/msgReader, is causing problems with some shell/perl scripts on my system. (Since $ indicates a variable in most UNIX shell languages.) It works ok if I use lynx 'http://www.xmlrpc.com/discuss/msgReader$813', but if I call a wrapper script, it passes the raw string to Lynx.(which gets the $8 evaluated, so lynx gets "http://www.xmlrpc.com/discuss/msgReader13". Or, depending on the combinations of quotes, it gets "http://www.xmlrpc.com/discuss/msgreaderuser=gogmagog13". I don't have control of the scripts in question, and it is making me mad. :-)Can someone remind me again why the "?" wasn't good enough? :-P
