Application layer abstraction for XML-RPC/SOAP

A well-written paper by Mark M. Davydov, on the http://IntelligentEAI.com site, describes Interenterprise Application Cooperation (IAC): new layers of abstraction and new services. He wants a framework of protocols and services that let virtual enterprises assemble wide area workflows and construct applications from multiple commpany's components hosted within corporate boundaries.Think "Application syndication" vs. content.
SOAP/XML-RPC may be the plumbing his model calls for.
This smells to me like that period a few years' ago when RSS was first introduced and XML-RPC was but a twinkle in Dave's eye. A light touch from this community might put the Enterprise Application Integration leaders on a complementary course.
